The Bermuda Triangle: The Devil's Triangle

Ships that have left but never arrived at their destination, ghost vessels and crews that have literally vanished into thin air, aircraft that have crashed or disappeared without a trace with their passengers: the stretch of sea known as the Bermuda Triangle has earned rightfully the fame of "Cursed Triangle" or "Devil's Triangle".
The mystery that envelops the almost 1,300 square kilometers of ocean between the summits of Miami, Puerto Rico and Bermuda has become in the years object of numerous theories : it goes from the paranormal to the witchcraft, passing through temporal alterations, black holes in the ocean, inverse gravitational fields, ultrasonic equipment of Martian origin, secret weapons developed by the US army and experimented clandestinely, Atlantian energy sources capable of compromising the operation of on-board instruments ...

The sinister fame of this area originated already in the XV century: it seems that Christopher Columbus himself, passing through, had noticed strange lights, sudden lightning, alterations of the instruments on board and of the compasses. The logbook referred to «something like a fireball surrounding the flagship».

From the second half of 1700 onwards, the list of boats missing for no apparente reason, has grownth considerably but the Devil’s Triangle does not spare even the planes passing through it, the event that started the legend is a mysterious accident, happened on 5 December 1945: five aircraft of the American Navy left from the base of Fort Lauderdale in Florida for a training flight on planes Avenger, mysteriously disappear after a sos launched by the commander. Of the two aeroplanes that went on patrol to find them, only one returned to base. The disappearance is called mysterious by the official reports themselves: therefore an attempt is made to find a common cause for all the incidents happened.

The Devil's Triangle-Location of the Bermuda Triangle

During the Sixties there's the belief of a connection with the lost city of Atlantis, submerged just under the Triangle: a giant pyramid-shaped crystal would attract cosmic rays causing very high waves and meteorological disturbances that cannot be diagnosed with human instruments.
The existence of such a structure was also supported by Dr. Ray Brown who claimed to have seen it during a dive although he could not prove it because of a storm that destroyed his photographic equipment. The supporters of the "Atlantean Cause" relate both to the underwater presence of a calcareous rock formation called Bimini Road (or Bimini Wall) that seems to be the work of man, and to the theories contained in the bestseller of Charles Berlitz "The Bermuda Triangle" from 1974.

The "Alien Lead" is more articulated: there are those who claim that The Triangle is an extraterrestrial base where the kidnapped persons are brought to be subjected to the experiments, who believe that it is a Stargate(an interdimensional port in which boats and planes are falling) or a Time Gate leading to other eras but some people think also the boats and ships are swallowed by wormholes and these wormholes open into the anti-matter counterparts of our world.

The "Government Intervention Thesis" cannot be missing: in the 1950s, an underground research centre was built in the area, its experiments would involve paranormal activity capable of influencing on-board instruments and generating disappearances.

Among the less known hypotheses would be the interference caused by a Meteorite Crashing into the ocean floor of the Atlantic over 10,000 years ago.

None of these explanations, to now, has found sure confirmation so the Bermuda Triangle remains an unsolved mystery.

"Day after day, day after day, We stuck, nor breath nor motion; As idle as a painted ship Upon a painted ocean.
Water, water, every where, And all the boards did shrink; Water, water, every where"

-Samuel Taylor Coleridge "The rime of the ancient mariner"
