According to legend, Ys would be a mythical town built on a legendary island in the bay of Douarnez in Brittany, by Gradlon, King of Cornwall, for his daughter Dahut .
To protect the island which was below sea level from the fury of the ocean, a system of dikes was built around it, the keys of which were in the possession of the king who, from time to time, opened the locks to renew the course of the waters.
Legend has it that one day the beautiful Dahut fell in love with a charming young stranger who came to the island and was persuaded by him to steal the keys from her father.
The stranger who was actually the Devil opened the city’s dam allowing the ocean to flood the island and destroy it: King Gradlon managed to save himself by reaching the coast on his fairy steed Morvac'h, gift of the ancient Celts, the Tuatha De Danann, and he sought to carry with him Dahud, but during the crossing the burden of the maiden’s guilt was so great...
